Hillerød Municipality is very versatile. Centrally is of course Hillerød town with a rich trade and culture life. In addition to the town itself, Hillerød has a number of smaller communities. Surrounding the town are large nature areas.
Hillerød Municipality is a dynamic and well balanced municipality in growth. It has local insight and regional prospect and is simultaneous the regional capital for one of the five new regions in Denmark, that is “Region Hovedstaden” (The capital region).
Hillerød Municipality is the visionary overall solution for the good life. The town centre, with Frederiksborg Castle, the castle lake and the Baroque Garden, reminds us that quality is more important than quantity. The area of the municipality covers 132,75 square kilometers. The municipality consists of one third town area, one third farm land and one third forest and it borders up to two great lakes, Esrum Lake and Arresø. Hillerød is known for its beautiful cultural sightseeing such as Frederiksborg Castle, the Baroque Garden and Frederiksborg Museum. Another fantastic sightseeing is “Hillerød Viden- og Kulturpark” (Hillerød Knowlegde and Culture Park); a library with surrounding culture workshops and game spots. This is the cultural gathering spot around the culture life of Hillerød with exhibitions, music and theatre.

The municipality has a number of education institutions that offer short or medium termed educations. Hillerød is a learning town where education takes a lot of room. This is in particular because of the many institutions that counts the Business Academy North Sealand, Hillerød Technical School, Hillerød Business School, Frederiksborg Gymnasium, VUC and Hillerød teacher training college.
